Torso/Walking Male Torso, 1927-28

Torso/Walking Male Torso, 1927-28, bronze
Dora Gordine, Torso/Walking Male Torso, 1927-28, bronze, 123 x 48 x 68.5 cm. Cast by Valsuani and Morris Singer.

According to the art critic Marie Dormoy, the French sculptor François Pompon helped Gordine secure an important invitation to exhibit at the Salon des Tuileries in Paris after seeing her ‘torso of a man’, probably Walking Male Torso. This led to her first major success in the city. Photographs of Dorich House interiors taken soon after its completion in 1936 show the work placed in a prominent position on the first-floor landing, between the Gallery and the Modelling Studio.
