Upcoming events at Dorich House Museum | January 2025

Dorich House Museum is officially back open to the public as of Thursday 23rd January 2025. We will resume our regular opening times of 11am – 5pm (last entry 4:30pm) on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. As always, we are free to enter for all.

Ariadne’s Thread Group:

On our reopening day (Thursday 23rd January 2025), we will have the Ariadne’s Thread Group occupying our Modelling Studio with their embroidery table for a day of mindful stitching contributing to their Flowers We Give to Ukraine project. The group will be working on their Blue Cornflowers tapestry, a cross-stitch reproduction of a painting by Ukrainian folk artist Maria Prymachenko. This is an ongoing participatory installation which anyone is encouraged to join, so don’t be afraid to take part if you see the group working!

Guided Tours:

We have two guided tours running in January! These will take place at 11am on Thursday 23rd and 30th January. If you are planning a visit on either of these days, make sure to visit our Eventbrite page and book your tickets in advance.

Exhibition: Here, Somewhere: Queering Dorich House | Running until 01 March 2025

This evolving collaborative project by multimedia storyteller Honey Birch, is a reinvention of Dorich House as a queer home, questioning its history and imagining a simultaneous queer future. A selection of archival materials, pointing to the supposed lavender marriage of Dora Gordine and Richard Hare – hinted at by former friends and acquaintances of the couple – is displayed throughout the building.  A series of interventions will further queer the space throughout the exhibition’s run. The installation of two domestic objects; a bed and curtains. One of intimacy, the other of privacy. Double Bed speculates on Gordine and Hare’s bedroom life, presenting their sleeping arrangement as a foot-to-foot affair. Kiss Me in the Straight Club – On Curtains recollects Birch’s night out in a straight club, shrouding Dorich House’s living space in queer storytelling, emphasising the balance of joy and fear that is experienced when outside of the sanctity of queer community.
